Schmidt Wildlife Park
At home in the Eifel

  Deer and co. live close enough to touch right next to the Eifel National Park! The nature park in Nideggen-Schmidt is home to native wild animals, tame domestic and farm animals and a naturally preserved plant world.

The shorter farm tour with cattle, donkeys, goats, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs and poultry also starts at the large adventure playground. Just the thing for people with walking difficulties, parents with small children and anyone who doesn't like walking. The outdoor terrace and the falconry with various birds of prey are also barrier-free.

The falconry is home to desert buzzard Maria, eagle owl Klaus, tawny owl Klausi-Mausi, red kites Hildegard and Waltrud and black kites Walter and Ewald. From April to October, the birds of prey show off their skills every day at 2 pm during the flight show. New arrivals are the funny raccoons Rocket and Wilson. You can learn a lot about their species at the daily feeding at 1 pm.

The regular walking trail (suitable for pushchairs) is approx. 5 km long and leads for the most part through newly designed outdoor enclosures. Species-appropriate husbandry is the top priority: the enclosures are very spacious, completely adapted to the animals' natural habitat and offer plenty of opportunities to retreat. You can see red deer all year round (no outdoor enclosures) as well as fallow deer, sika deer, mouflons and llamas, all of which can be fed, plus various species of ducks and Egyptian geese in the ponds.

The Café & Bistro serves many coffee specialities, waffles and the famous homemade cake. Pudding or poppy seed crumble, gooseberry, cherry, apple or apricot crumble, as well as baked cheesecake (Sat./Sun. only). If you want to satisfy your hearty hunger, you can choose from specialities such as snacks with venison ham or game salami from our own production. The variety is rounded off with a veggie wrap, delicious potato salad and a large selection of soups. The Kitz menu offers bockwurst sausages, sandwiches or a hearty Mäxchen, optionally also vegetarian. Quality at fair prices - there is something for everyone here.
