Kanu fahren mit Kanu Petry
Heimbach
Fun and sportiness are offered by the good-natured and very capsize-proof open double kayaks-in which canoeing can be learned in a short time. The Petry canoe school has been offering canoe trips on the Rur since 1990, and boats and equipment for up to 140 people are available. After a detailed theoretical briefing and subsequent dry runs, experienced canoe instructors accompany you in small groups on the Rur in Heimbach.
The Rur is a popular river for beginners, with its numerous switchbacks, swells and small rapids. The 14-kilometre stretch from Heimbach to Zerkall, including a picnic break in Blens, takes about 4.5 hours. To ensure nature conservation (bird breeding), the Rur can only be navigated from 15 July to 28 February at a set minimum level. The number of boats is also limited.
At the entry and exit points, the stops of the Rurtalbahn Düren-Heimbach are up to about 300 metres away - ideal for arriving by public transport or parking your car at the Zerkall destination. At the end of the Rur descent, the canoe house in Zerkall is a good choice. Here you will find changing facilities, shelter from bad weather and good partners for your catering.
The Heimbach reservoir can be navigated all year round. Canoeing on the almost stagnant water is pure relaxation. The water quality is excellent. The shore landscapes are varied and always change with the seasons. Swans and other water birds can be observed at a reasonable distance. The Art Nouveau hydroelectric power station, built in 1904 and visible from afar, can also be visited.
A canoe trip on the Heimbach reservoir in combination with a guided hike is also a well-rounded experience. For a cosy get-together at the end, a beautifully situated barbecue area directly on the lake can be offered (combined hiking/canoeing/barbecue tour). Both options are very popular as company outings.
